Sky secures broadcast rights for more Serie A games in Italy

Sky's Italian arm won the rights to broadcast twice as many Serie A matches at third of the previous cost, after it split the broadcast right with Perform Group for a total of 973m per season.
Sky will exclusively broadcast 266 live games per season in 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2020/21, with the network's Italian channels playing host to seven out of ten games on each match day.

The company said it has secured 16 of the Italian top flight's 20 biggest games and that the equivalent cost of the deal was under a third of the per-match cost of their previous deal with the league.

Jeremy Darroch, group chief executive of Sky, said: "Alongside our recently announced plans for our Italian business, customers will be able to enjoy Sky on every single platform and access the content they love in ways that suit them. Taken together, we are confident we can reach even more sports fans in Italy, increasing our sports subscribers, and we have never been in a better position to grow."

Fans will be able to watch matches via satellite, digital terrestrial television, via NOW TV and across fibre.

As of 1211 BST, Sky's shares were up 0.37% at 1,340.00p.
