E.on sneaks out price rise on coldest spring day on record

Energy provider E.on on Friday snuck out a price rise for customers on its standard variable tariff on one of the coldest spring days since records began.
There was no mention of the price rise on the company's website, but price comparison sites noted that the company had axed its dual fuel and paperless discount on the tariff, resulting in a £22 annual increase for customers.

The changes will come into effect for existing customers on E.on's standard variable tariff from 19 April 2018, and also apply to all new customers getting a fixed tariff with immediate effect.

According to consumer website moneysavingexpert.com German-owned E.on is scrapping the £20 annual discount offered to dual fuel customers and the £5-a-year discount offered to customers who opt for paperless billing.

The standing charge for customers who pay quarterly by cash or cheque will be increased, it added.
