Ceres Power Holdings products electrify fuel cell expo
Ceres Power Holdings used its time on Thursday at the Tokyo Fuel Cell Expo to announce the significant progress made on its new 5kW stack platform.
The platform has increased power density, reduced start-up times and vibration technology, leading Ceres to conclude that the finished product may have potential for use to address automotive applications.
Mark Selby, chief technology officer of Ceres, said: "This is an exciting time for Ceres Power and the fuel cell market as a whole. As polluting combustion technologies are displaced, cleaner electrochemical technologies that offer flexibility and resilience, such as the SteelCell, are increasingly in high demand."
The fuel cell technology and engineering company also advanced significant progress with the SteelCellV5 with improvements in efficiency and lower degradation.
Phil Caldwell, chief executive of Ceres, said: "These advancements in the SteelCell technology, allied to our work with our OEM partners, further demonstrates that we are becoming a global leader in the fuel cell market. We are establishing the SteelCell as a new class of fuel cell that is highly efficient, fuel flexible and cost effective, which offers a real alternative to replace conventional combustion engine and power generation technology in an increasingly electric future."
Five OEMs have signed joint development agreements to work with Ceres on the SteelCell in the last two years, including Honda, Nissan and Cummins.
Ceres said the product is commercially viable for electric vehicles and thus opened up significant opportunities for companies that need to convert to combustion-free technologies.
As of 1208 GMT, Ceres Power Holdings' shares were down 0.53% at 14.20p.
