RedT connects third machine to South African grid

RedT Energy announced on Monday that it has connected a third fully operational energy storage machine to the grid in South Africa, helping to reduce carbon emissions.
The energy storage solutions company's 15-75kWh patented vanadium redox flow machine has been installed at the Thaba Eco Hotel site as part of a solar mini-grid system, helping the remote resort with its weak local grid connection.

The project is forecast to generate 175MWh of renewable energy per annum, resulting in a yearly reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 143 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

According to RedT, the Thaba project will be a "key asset" for the company and can be used to demonstrate the environmental and financial benefits of company technology to renewable asset owners in the region.

Scott McGregor, chief executive of redT Energy, said: "Accelerated growth of low cost solar power in Africa has opened up a significant market opportunity for us, as our robust energy storage machines are an ideal solution to unlock more solar for use by customers in off-grid or weak-grid markets. We are proud to lead the successful deployment of flow machines into essential energy infrastructure in Africa with our redT machines established now in South Africa and also enroute to Botswana."

The Thaba project has been fully funded by The Energy and Environment Partnership in Southern and East Africa.

As of 0843 GMT, redT Energy's shares were down 0.27% at 7.38p.
