GAN tie-up with SBTECH eyes lifting of US sports betting ban

Internet and casino gambling software provider GAN on Monday said it had formed a partnership with SBTECH to serve real money sports betting to GAN's US clients.
The companies said the move would position them in the market if the US government overturns the ban on sports betting. SBTECH's provides sports wagering technology.

GAN said its clients together represent more than 70 casino properties located coast-to-coast generating in excess of $8bn in land-based casino gaming revenues annually.

GAN chief executive Dermot Smurfit said the company had been asked by several clients to review, procure and support the delivery of a sports betting solution both online and in casinos if the ban was reversed.

Internet gaming was effectively outlawed in the US in 2006 by the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act by prohibiting financial institutions from processing Internet gaming payments.

In 2013 three US States passed laws to regulate Internet gaming within their borders: Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey. Both New Jersey and Pennsylvania have passed legislation enabling existing Internet gaming operators to launch Internet sports betting if the ban is overturned.
