Director dealings: Carnival boss sells some shares
Cruise line operator Carnival's boss let go of a package of shares worth $149,626 at a price of $68 each.
The sales was conducted on 14 March on behalf of Arnold W.Donald through a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan on the NYSE adopted on 18 October 2017, the company said in a statement.
Said plans allow top directors at US-listed firm to sell shares per a previously scheduled calendar, thus allowing them to avoid any allegations of having used privileged information in order to time their decisions.
The transaction came roughly a week before the company was scheduled to report its fiscal first quarter numbers and with the stock trading at close to five-year highs.
It was also preceded by a research note on 8 March out of Morgan Stanley, whose analysts pointed out to clients how the company's 10-Ks revealed Europe, Australia & Asia were "sharply underperforming" North America.
On the other hand, a recovery in the same could add up to $1 or 25% to the firm's earnings per share, to $100 or £72 under a 'bull' case scenario, Morgan Stanley said.
More recently, on the same day that Donald sold, ShoreCap analysts said the stock might be due for a bounce after having fallen from their pre-hurricane season peak above 5,300p.
"We expect bookings to have fully recovered post Hurricane Irma and, with the shares trading below their pre-hurricane season peak of over 5,300p last August, could be due a bounce, with our fair value at c5,100p. We have a HOLD stance on Carnival with our positive expectations for the current year tempered by concerns over the expected step-up in capacity growth over the medium term."
