Oil prices surged as Hamas' attack on Israel fanned fears of a wider regional war and worries over crude supplies. Brent crude jumped more than 5% at one stage to 89 US dollars a barrel, before edging back slightly to stand 3.3% higher at 87.27 US dollars.

Open interest in crude oil futures markets shrank by around 48.5 K contracts on Friday, keeping the erratic performance well in place for yet another session. In the same line, volume dropped by just 571 contracts after three straight daily builds.
