Commons gears up for another 'meaningful vote' showdown
The much touted 'Brexit showdown' will take place on Wednesday at 1430 BST as The House of Commons vote on parliament's role in the UK's exit from the European Union.
The 'meaningful vote' amendment would give parliament the opportunity to have a say on the final Brexit deal and has been ping-ponged between the Commons and The House of Lords, where the government suffered a defeat on Monday.
Last week, Theresa May offered assurances that parliament would be given some say on the EU exit, but would-be rebels described the offer as a "slap in the face".
Pro-Brexit MPs argue that the proposed vote would weaken the UK's negotiating position and could collapse May's government.
Conservative MP Anna Soubry, a prominent supporter of the 'meaningful vote', has committed to vote against the government but denied being a "traitor" as she said getting Brexit right is "vital".
But, despite an apparent rift in the Tory party between Pro-EU and Pro-Brexit MP's, another unnamed Tory rebel is understood to have said he expects Pro-EU lawmakers to vote largely in support of the government with the real clash set to come over trade negotiations in July.
